At Lake of the Woods Dental Health Centre in Kenora, our dentist offers root canal therapy and treatment for patients with severely damaged teeth.

Root Canals in Kenora

A root canal may be recommended when the pulp, also known as the soft tissue, inside a tooth becomes inflamed or infected.

A root canal works to help remove decay from within the tooth root and replace it with a dental filling material.

Restoring the tooth root can help prevent tooth extraction and subsequent damage as a result, including shifting of the remaining teeth or osseointegration (damage to the jaw).

What can I expect during a root canal?

The first step in root canal therapy is to remove the damaged and decayed part of the tooth. In some cases, it may be necessary to remove a large portion of the tooth.

If the remaining tooth is strong enough to serve as an anchor, the tooth can be repaired.

Once the dentist has removed the tooth pulp, he will clean and disinfect the area before applying a chemical sealant to help prevent future infection and reinforce the tooth dental material.

After the dental material is placed and sealed, the tooth will be covered with a porcelain crown to try and look and feel similar to your natural teeth.
